The Piedmont is a physiographic region of the eastern United States lying between the Blue Ridge Mountains of the Appalachian system and the Atlantic Coastal Plain. It extends from New Jersey southward through the Carolinas and Georgia to Alabama. The region consists largely of rolling uplands underlain by older crystalline and metamorphic rocks, with scattered ridges, valleys, and residual hills.
