Ralph Miliband was a Belgian-born British sociologist and political theorist who lived from 1924 to 1994 and became an influential figure in postwar Marxist scholarship. In The State in Capitalist Society, published in 1969, he argued that capitalist states tend to protect ruling-class interests through their institutions and leadership networks. His work is studied by readers of political sociology, Marxist state theory, class analysis, and democratic politics.
