What are the three phases of a Rampart round?

Players first place cannons, then fire them during a timed battle phase, and finally rebuild walls with randomly shaped pieces. A castle survives only if the repair phase closes a complete wall around it.

Why did the Rampart arcade cabinet use a trackball?

The trackball lets players rapidly aim cannon fire and move wall pieces around the map. Atari produced both two-player and three-player arcade configurations.

What happens if I cannot enclose a castle before time expires?

Any cannon outside a completed enclosure is lost for the next battle. If the player cannot enclose at least one castle, the game ends.
