help Rheem RTEX-27 FAQ
What electrical circuits does the Rheem RTEX-27 need?
The 27 kW heater operates at 240 volts and normally requires three dedicated 40-amp double-pole circuits. That load can be unsuitable for homes without sufficient panel and service capacity.
Can the RTEX-27 supply a whole house in winter?
It can serve whole-house applications, but available GPM drops as the required temperature rise increases. Homes with very cold groundwater may need reduced fixture flow or a higher-capacity solution.
Does the RTEX-27 include flow restrictors?
Rheem lists two 0.35 GPM aerators with the RTEX-27. They are useful for low-flow faucets but are not intended to restrict a normal shower to that rate.
How is the RTEX-27 different from the RTEX-36?
The RTEX-27 has a 27 kW heating capacity, while the RTEX-36 provides 36 kW for greater temperature rise or flow. The 36 kW model also places a significantly larger demand on the electrical service.
