description Richard Besser Overview

Richard Besser is an American pediatrician who served as acting director of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) during the 2009 H1N1 influenza pandemic. He subsequently became president and CEO of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, one of the largest philanthropic organizations in the United States focused on public health. Besser trained as a pediatrician and spent much of his early career at the CDC in roles related to infectious disease and emergency preparedness.
