Riders on the Storm follows the east face of Torre Central in Chile's Torres del Paine. The route climbs roughly 1,200 meters of exposed Patagonian granite.
Who established Riders on the Storm?
Kurt Albert, Wolfgang Güllich, Bernd Arnold, Norbert Bätz, and Peter Dittrich established the route during the 1990-1991 season. Their original ascent combined difficult free climbing with aid sections.
Has Riders on the Storm been climbed completely free?
Yes, a four-person team completed the first team-free ascent in February 2024. Siebe Vanhee, Seán Villanueva O'Driscoll, Nicolas Favresse, and Drew Smith freed all 41 pitches at difficulties up to about 7c+.
