Roy Harrod

Roy Harrod is most widely recognized for his development of an early macroeconomic model of economic growth, which he outlined in his 1939 paper. This framework, alongside the similar independent work of Evsey Domar, became universally known as the Harrod-Domar growth model.

Roy Harrod was a prominent British economist who spent the vast majority of his highly influential academic career at Oxford University. He was deeply associated with Oxford's Christ Church college, where he taught and developed his foundational economic theories.

The Harrod-Domar model posits that a country's economic growth rate is determined by its national savings rate and the productivity of its invested capital. Roy Harrod's model suggested that maintaining steady growth without experiencing economic instability required a precise balance between savings and investment.

During his long tenure at Oxford University, Roy Harrod was a close colleague and friend to the famous economist John Maynard Keynes. He later wrote a highly respected biography titled 'The Life of John Maynard Keynes,' published in 1951, which remains a definitive text on Keynes's life.
