Sabkhat al-Jabbul is a large, shallow hypersaline lake and salt flat situated approximately 40 kilometers southeast of Aleppo in northern Syria. It is the largest natural wetland in the country, fed by intermittent streams and runoff from the surrounding agricultural land. Designated as a Ramsar Wetland of International Importance, the lake serves as a crucial staging and wintering area for migratory waterbirds, including large flocks of greater flamingos. Salt extraction has historically been a major industry around its shores.
