Salyut 5 was a Soviet space station launched on 22 June 1976 as the third and final Almaz military station to reach orbit, under the public Salyut program designation OPS-3. Its intended role involved military reconnaissance and observation, although the station was presented within the civilian-named Salyut series. Two Soyuz missions reached the station and hosted crews, while another attempted mission failed to dock. Salyut 5 reentered in 1977 after operating in low Earth orbit.
