The San Joaquin Valley is the southern portion of California's Central Valley, extending approximately 400 kilometers from the Sacramento–San Joaquin River Delta in the north to the Tehachapi Mountains in the south. Bounded by the Coast Ranges to the west and the Sierra Nevada to the east, this alluvial plain contains some of the world's most productive farmland. The valley produces over 250 different crops, including almonds, grapes, cotton, tomatoes, and numerous other fruits and vegetables, generating more than 12% of U.S. agricultural production despite chronic water supply challenges.
