description Sepioteuthis australis Overview
Sepioteuthis australis, known as the southern reef squid, is a loliginid squid native to coastal waters around southern Australia and New Zealand. Its broad fin running along much of the mantle gives it a superficial resemblance to a cuttlefish, although it is a true squid. The species lives in relatively shallow marine habitats and is harvested commercially and recreationally, including in fisheries that market it as calamari or squid.
