description Shako Overview
Shako is a chess variant invented by Jean-Louis Cazaux in 1990, played on a 10×10 board with an expanded set of pieces. In addition to standard chess pieces, each player commands cannons inspired by Xiangqi that move like rooks but capture by jumping over an intervening piece, and elephants drawn from Shatranj that move in specific diagonal patterns. The larger board and additional piece types create a more complex strategic environment than standard chess.
