description Sheep Crab Overview
The sheep crab, Loxorhynchus grandis, is a large spider crab of the Pacific coast of North America. It lives on rocky reefs, soft bottoms, and pilings from Point Reyes and Cordell Bank to Baja California, usually at depths of 6 to 152 meters. Its oval, tuberculate shell and long jointed legs are especially large in males, while algae on the shell can create a fuzzy appearance.
