description Short Stirling Overview

The Short Stirling was a British four-engined heavy bomber designed and built by Short Brothers for the Royal Air Force during the Second World War. It entered operational service in 1941 as the first four-engined bomber to serve with RAF Bomber Command. Besides bombing, Stirling units later performed mine-laying, glider towing, and airborne transport duties, reflecting the aircraft's use beyond its original role.
