Dame Sian Elias is a New Zealand jurist who served as Chief Justice from 1999 to 2019, becoming the first woman appointed to lead the court. When the Supreme Court of New Zealand was established in 2004, replacing the Judicial Committee of the Privy Council as the country's final court of appeal, she became its inaugural Chief Justice. She retired in 2019 and was succeeded by Helen Winkelmann.
