Sinope Gospels

description Sinope Gospels Overview

The Sinope Gospels are surviving fragments of a 6th-century Greek Gospel book written in gold ink on purple-dyed parchment. Discovered at Sinope, now Sinop in Turkey, the manuscript preserves portions of Matthew and includes five surviving miniatures placed along the lower part of pages. It is an important example of early Byzantine luxury book production and is now held by the Bibliotheque nationale de France in Paris.
