description Sky-Watcher Heritage 150P Overview

This variant of the popular Heritage series adds a computerized GoTo system to the 6-inch reflector design. It bridges the gap between manual Dobsonian telescopes and full-sized automated systems. It allows users to enjoy the high light-gathering power of a large mirror while benefiting from the convenience of automatic object location. It is an excellent choice for those who want more automation than a standard Heritage but don't want the bulk of a larger equatorial mount.

help Sky-Watcher Heritage 150P FAQ

What can you see through the Sky-Watcher Heritage 150P?

Its 150 mm Newtonian mirror can show lunar craters, Jupiter's major cloud bands, Saturn's rings, and brighter deep-sky targets such as the Orion Nebula. The 750 mm focal length and f/5 design also provide relatively wide views when used with a low-power eyepiece.

Does the Heritage 150P find and track objects automatically?

The manual Heritage 150P does not, but the Virtuoso GTi 150P variant adds Wi-Fi GoTo control and motorized tracking through Sky-Watcher's SynScan app. Its Freedom Find dual encoders also allow manual movement without immediately losing the computerized alignment.

Does the Heritage 150P need a tripod?

It is a tabletop Dobsonian, so its compact base is intended to sit on a stable table, stool, or platform rather than a conventional camera tripod. The collapsible optical tube shrinks from roughly 27 inches extended to 16 inches retracted on the Virtuoso GTi version.

Can the Heritage 150P be used for astrophotography?

It works well for phone snapshots of the Moon and can capture planets with a suitable planetary camera. Its alt-azimuth tabletop mount and 1.25-inch helical focuser are not designed for long-exposure deep-sky imaging, where an equatorial mount is normally preferred.
