Slave is the self-titled 1977 debut album by Slave, a funk collective formed in Dayton, Ohio, and led in its early period by trumpeter and multi-instrumentalist Steve Washington. Released by Cotillion Records, it established the group's hard-edged sound through prominent bass, synthesizers, horns, guitar, and tightly repeated rhythmic figures. The album contains "Slide," a major funk recording that introduced Slave to a national audience.
