help Too Hot to Stop FAQ

Is "Shake Your Rump to the Funk" on Too Hot to Stop?

Yes. "Shake Your Rump to the Funk" is one of the 1976 album's best-known tracks and helped introduce the rebuilt Bar-Kays as a major funk act.

Is the title song the same "Too Hot to Stop" heard in Superbad?

Yes. The Bar-Kays' "Too Hot to Stop" is used memorably during the opening credits of the 2007 film Superbad. Its horn accents and driving guitar make it immediately recognizable.

How was this Bar-Kays lineup connected to Otis Redding?

The original Bar-Kays served as Otis Redding's touring band, but most members died with him in the 1967 plane crash. Surviving members James Alexander and Ben Cauley helped rebuild the group.

Does Too Hot to Stop sound like the Bar-Kays' 1960s recordings?

It is considerably more vocal-driven and aligned with mid-1970s funk than the original band's instrumental hit "Soul Finger." The rebuilt lineup uses prominent horns, electric guitar, bass, and group chants.
