Speedball C5 Nib

The Speedball C5 Nib is a broad-edge dip pen tip specifically designed for creating italic and gothic lettering styles. Manufactured by Speedball Art Products in the USA, its flat, fixed-angle tip allows calligraphers to easily create the thick and thin strokes characteristic of these hands.

In the Speedball C-series, the C5 is a mid-sized broad-edge nib, offering a thinner line width than larger nibs like the C0 or C1. It provides a more delicate stroke, making it ideal for artists who want to write precise, smaller-scale historic scripts without switching tools.

While you technically can use fountain pen ink, the C5 Nib is a dip pen that performs best with thicker mediums like calligraphy ink, gouache, or sumi ink. Fountain pen ink is often too thin and watery, which can cause it to bleed on the paper or drip uncontrollably from the nib.

The Speedball C5 Nib features a standard brass base that fits securely into most universal, removable-nib pen holders. You simply push the nib into the holder until it locks into place, allowing you to use high-quality wooden or plastic handles from various brands.
