Spotted Knapweed

description Spotted Knapweed Overview

Spotted knapweed (Centaurea stoebe) is a Eurasian herb in the daisy family, Asteraceae, that is invasive in many North American grasslands and rangelands. It produces pink to purple flower heads above branched stems, and the dark-tipped bracts beneath each head give the plant its common name. The species spreads readily in disturbed ground and can release allelopathic compounds that suppress the growth of nearby plants, adding to its effects on native plant communities.
