Springfield Armory M1A

The Springfield Armory M1A is the semi-automatic civilian version of the fully automatic military M14 battle rifle. Introduced in 1974, the M1A operates identically to the M14 but lacks the internal select-fire components required for automatic capability.

The Springfield M1A generally holds its value incredibly well due to its historical pedigree as an American civilian M14 variant and its high-quality forged receivers. Pre-ban models manufactured in the 1980s and 1990s often command a premium on the used market today.

The Springfield M1A is designed to accept standard 20-round metric M14 magazines. While genuine US military surplus magazines function flawlessly, many shooters prefer high-quality aftermarket magazines produced by companies like Check-Mate Industries.

The accuracy of the Springfield M1A heavily depends on whether it features a standard barrel or a heavy National Match barrel. Standard models typically shoot around 2 to 3 MOA, while the highly tuned National Match variants are capable of sub-MOA accuracy with match-grade ammunition.
