description SS Laurentic Overview
SS Laurentic was a British passenger liner operated by the White Star Line and used as an armed merchant cruiser during the First World War. On 25 January 1917, she struck mines near Malin Head off the coast of Ireland and sank, killing 354 people. The ship was carrying a large quantity of gold bullion, and extensive salvage operations recovered most of that cargo from the wreck over a period of years.
