description Suillus variegatus Overview

Suillus variegatus, the velvet or variegated bolete, is a pore-bearing mushroom of the family Suillaceae found with pine trees in Eurasia and North America. Young caps are rusty, tawny, or ochre and velvety; they become smoother with age, while the pores are yellow to olive and may bruise blue. The species forms ectomycorrhizae with pines and is regarded as edible in some regional mushroom guides.
