Tango Pour Claude

Tango Pour Claude was composed by French accordionist Richard Galliano and is dedicated to the influential French singer Claude Nougaro, with whom Galliano collaborated closely. Nougaro was a towering figure in French chanson known for blending jazz and poetic lyricism. Galliano composed the piece in 1993 as a tribute to their artistic relationship.

Galliano studied under Astor Piazzolla, the revolutionary Argentine tango composer, who encouraged him to develop his own voice blending tango, jazz, and French musette. Galliano's approach to tango incorporates elements of French musette, jazz improvisation, and classical technique, creating what he has called 'new musette.' Unlike traditional Argentine tango orchestras built around the bandoneón, Galliano uses the accordion and often performs in smaller chamber configurations.
