Telefomin Cuscus

description Telefomin Cuscus Overview

The Telefomin cuscus, Phalanger matanim, is a rare marsupial in the family Phalangeridae, known from the Telefomin area of western Papua New Guinea. It was described by Tim Flannery in 1987 from material collected in the upper Sol River area, with records from the Telefomin and Tifalmin regions and montane forests at roughly 1,500 to 2,600 m. Its restricted known range and small number of specimens make it important for mammal surveys and conservation work.
