Terem Palace

The Terem Palace is located within the Moscow Kremlin complex in Russia. It was constructed in the 17th century to serve as the primary residence for the Russian tsars. Today, it remains a highly restricted historic monument within the Kremlin walls.

The palace was built in the 17th century for Tsar Mikhail Romanov, the first ruler of the Romanov dynasty. It was designed to reflect traditional Russian wooden architecture while being constructed entirely of stone. The tsars used it as their main home until the later expansion of the Kremlin complex.

The Terem Palace is part of the official residence of the President of Russia, so general tourist access is strictly prohibited. While tourists can view the exterior during a Kremlin visit, interior tours are reserved for special dignitaries. The building is directly connected to the Grand Kremlin Palace.

The Terem Palace features a highly traditional Russian architectural style, characterized by its steeply pitched roofs and intricate window surrounds. Although it looks like traditional Russian woodwork, it is actually constructed of brick. It was designed to emulate earlier wooden palaces used by Russian royalty.
