That Dam (Black Stupa)

description That Dam (Black Stupa) Overview

That Dam, also called the Black Stupa, is a historic Buddhist monument in central Vientiane, Laos. Its exposed laterite structure gives it the dark appearance reflected in its name, unlike stuccoed or brightly painted stupas. Local tradition says that it is guarded by a seven-headed naga, a serpent figure associated with protection in Lao Buddhist and regional folklore.
