Tilopteris mertensii is a small brown alga in the class Phaeophyceae, order Tilopteridales and family Tilopteridaceae. It forms a delicate, feathery thallus with a main axis and opposite branches arranged in one plane; the upper branches are mostly one cell wide and end in hair-like tips, while monosporangia occur on side branches. It has been recorded in North Atlantic and northern European waters, including Norway, where it is considered relatively rare.
