TOI-178 g

description TOI-178 g Overview

TOI-178 g is the outermost known planet in the six-planet TOI-178 system, a compact system orbiting a late K-type star. It is a transiting planet in the super-Earth to mini-Neptune size range, with an orbital period of about 20.7 days. Together with planets c, d, e, and f, it participates in a chain of Laplace resonances, a dynamical pattern in which combinations of orbital periods remain near simple integer relationships.

help TOI-178 g FAQ

What is special about TOI-178 g's orbit?

TOI-178 g is the outermost known planet in the six-planet TOI-178 system and takes about 20.7 days to orbit its star. It is also the final member of the c-through-g resonance chain. ([NASA Exoplanet Archive](https://exoplanetarchive.ipac.caltech.edu/overview/TOI-178))

How large is TOI-178 g?

Its radius is roughly 2.9 Earth radii. That places it in the super-Earth to mini-Neptune size range and makes it larger than the innermost TOI-178 planets.

How many planets orbit inside TOI-178 g?

Five known planets, TOI-178 b through f, orbit inside g's path. Together, the six planets form a compact system around a late K-type star.

Is TOI-178 g a transiting planet?

Yes, TOI-178 g is observed as a transiting planet. Its approximately 20.7-day period is the longest among the six known planets in the system.
