description Tony Garnier Overview
Tony Garnier (1869–1948) was a French architect and urban planner best known for his conceptual project Une Cité Industrielle, published in 1917 after development beginning around 1898. This proposal outlined a planned industrial city with separated zones for residential, industrial, and civic functions, surrounded by green space. Though never built, the project influenced 20th-century modernist urban planning and anticipated ideas later adopted by CIAM and Le Corbusier.
