Ultima Underworld: The Stygian Abyss

Released in 1992 by Blue Sky Productions, it was revolutionary for allowing players to look up and down, jump, and swim in a fully 3D environment. Its intricate mechanical design heavily influenced classic games like 'System Shock' and 'Deus Ex.' It proved that first-person RPGs could have deep, complex mechanics.

The main objective is to descend into the Great Stygian Abyss to achieve the recovery of a kidnapped baron’s daughter.
