Upstart Bay is a tropical inlet situated on the eastern coast of Queensland, Australia, positioned between the towns of Bowen and Townsville. It was named by British navigator Matthew Flinders during his 1802 circumnavigation of the continent. The bay is bordered by Cape Upstart, a prominent granite promontory that juts into the Coral Sea. The area remains largely remote and is known to support populations of dugongs and various marine life.
