help Ushio & Tora (2015) FAQ
Why is Tora pinned beneath Ushio's family temple?
Tora was impaled there centuries earlier by the Beast Spear after terrorizing humans as a powerful youkai. Ushio reluctantly frees him when other monsters threaten the temple, but leaves the spear's threat hanging over their uneasy partnership.
What does the Beast Spear do to Ushio?
The spear grants Ushio the strength and speed needed to fight youkai, while causing his hair to lengthen and his appearance to become more feral. Its history is directly connected to Hakumen no Mono, the ancient enemy at the center of the series.
Does Ushio & Tora (2015) tell the complete manga story?
The 2015 adaptation compresses Kazuhiro Fujita's long manga and omits some episodic material, but it reaches the central conflict's conclusion. MAPPA and Studio VOLN produced 39 episodes, with the final portion airing in 2016.
Is the 2015 Ushio & Tora connected to the older OVA?
Both adapt the same manga, but the 2015 television series is a fresh production rather than a continuation. The earlier version was a 1990s OVA, while the newer adaptation retells Ushio and Tora's meeting and proceeds much further into the Hakumen no Mono storyline.
