In the vampire pose, the performer wraps the suspended fabric around their waist and thighs to suspend themselves upside down in a horizontal position, often with arms spread dramatically. The name evokes the image of a bat or vampire in flight, reflecting the striking visual shape of the pose.

The vampire is considered an intermediate to advanced skill that requires significant core strength, flexibility, and confidence working upside down. Performers must be comfortable with fabric wraps that support body weight around the waist and thighs, which can feel insecure when first learning.

The wrap involves bringing the fabric around the waist and threading it between the thighs so that the body can tip backward into a horizontal inverted position. Proper instruction from a qualified aerial arts teacher is essential, as incorrect wrapping can result in slipping or falling from height.

The vampire pose heavily engages the core abdominal and lower back muscles needed to maintain the horizontal inverted position. It also requires active engagement of the hip flexors, glutes, and thigh muscles to lock the fabric wrap securely and hold the legs in extension.
