Vanha kauppahalli

The Old Market Hall offers a range of traditional Finnish foods including fresh and smoked fish, reindeer meat, local cheeses, breads, pastries, and specialty items like Finnish caviar and artisanal chocolates. Many of the stalls are operated by long-standing family vendors, some serving customers for multiple generations.

The Vanha Kauppahalli is located along the South Harbour (Eteläsatama) in central Helsinki, directly across from the open-air Market Square (Kauppatori). Its prominent waterfront location makes it easily reachable on foot from the city center and from the ferry terminals serving Tallinn and Stockholm routes.

The market hall is generally open Monday through Saturday, with most vendors opening around 8:00 AM and closing by 6:00 PM on weekdays and around 4:00 PM on Saturdays. The hall is typically closed on Sundays and on major Finnish public holidays, and individual stall hours can vary.

The Vanha Kauppahalli opened in 1889, making it the oldest indoor market hall in Finland. The building was designed by Finnish architect Gustaf Nyström and underwent a major renovation that was completed in 2014.
