description Walter Alcock Overview

Sir Walter Galpin Alcock was an English organist, composer, and teacher who became organist of Salisbury Cathedral in 1916 and held the post until his death in 1947. He was also organ professor at the Royal College of Music and assistant organist at Westminster Abbey, and he played at the coronations of Edward VII, George V, and George VI. His published output includes church music and organ pieces, including the instructional volume The Organ.
