Wat Tyler

description Wat Tyler Overview

Wat Tyler was an English rebel leader associated with the Peasants' Revolt of 1381, an uprising against taxation and other social and political pressures in England. He led insurgents from southeastern England into London and met the young King Richard II at Smithfield. Tyler was killed during that meeting, after which the revolt lost its central commander. His role makes him a prominent subject in studies of medieval English rebellion and royal authority.
