Waterberg Plateau

The Waterberg Plateau is located in central Namibia, rising roughly 200 meters above the surrounding plains. Much of it lies within Waterberg Plateau Park, managed by Namibia's Ministry of Environment and Tourism. The nearest significant town is Otjiwarongo, approximately 70 kilometers to the south.

Waterberg Plateau Park is used in conservation programs for threatened wildlife, including black rhinoceros, roan antelope, sable antelope, and Cape vultures. The park has been important for breeding and relocating endangered species to other reserves across Namibia. The Waterberg area was the site of the Battle of Waterberg in 1904, where German colonial forces attacked the Herero people in what is now widely recognized as the Herero and Namaqua genocide.
