description Wicklow Mountains Overview

Wicklow Mountains National Park was established in 1991 and encompasses approximately 20,000 hectares of upland heath, blanket bog, and oak woodlands in eastern Ireland. Located just south of Dublin, the park includes Lugnaquilla, one of Ireland's highest mountains, and protects habitat for native wildlife including peregrine falcons and merlins. The park also encompasses the historic monastic settlement of Glendalough, founded in the 6th century by St. Kevin.
