Why did the Soviet Union invade Finland in the Winter War?
The Soviet government demanded territory and security concessions intended to move the border farther from Leningrad. After negotiations failed, Soviet forces invaded Finland on November 30, 1939.
How did Finland resist a much larger Red Army?
Finnish forces used skis, camouflage, dispersed units, and intimate knowledge of forests and frozen terrain. Motti tactics isolated sections of Soviet columns, particularly along narrow roads where armored strength was difficult to exploit.
What was the Mannerheim Line?
