description Wood Mushroom Overview
Agaricus silvaticus, also written Agaricus sylvaticus and known as the scaly or blushing wood mushroom, is a saprotrophic agaric of woodland soils. It commonly grows in humus-rich broad-leaved and coniferous woods, especially in summer and autumn. The cap is gray-brown and scaly, the gills mature from pale to dark brown, and the white flesh turns reddish to brownish when cut or bruised. The species is regarded as edible when cooked, but similar-looking relatives require careful identification.
