Yokai Septet

Yokai Septet is a 2016 trick-taking card game built around Japanese folklore. Its central rule limits a match to a maximum of seven tricks.

Players must plan around the seven-trick ceiling instead of playing a conventional long trick-taking hand. That limit makes timing and deciding when to win or avoid tricks especially important.

The game uses yokai, supernatural creatures and figures from Japanese folklore, as its card-game theme. The folklore setting gives the game a distinct identity beyond ordinary playing-card suits.

Hearts is mainly a trick-avoidance game in which players try to avoid penalty cards, while Yokai Septet is structured around a capped seven-trick match. Its scoring and card powers follow its own yokai-themed ruleset.
