Harvey Cardiology Patient Simulator

Harvey can reproduce heart sounds, murmurs, pulses, blood-pressure findings, and precordial movements associated with numerous cardiac conditions. Learners examine the manikin with familiar clinical tools, including a stethoscope and blood-pressure cuff.

Harvey was developed at the University of Miami by cardiologist Michael Gordon and collaborators. The simulator was introduced in the late 1960s and became an influential example of simulation-based medical education.

Harvey is designed to supplement clinical encounters by letting every learner repeatedly examine the same standardized findings. It cannot reproduce the full communication, variability, or medical complexity of working with a living patient.

Harvey combines audio findings with palpable pulses, chest-wall movements, respiration, and blood-pressure responses in a physical manikin. That coordination lets students practice a complete bedside cardiovascular examination rather than merely identify recorded sounds.
