The Niederwald Monument is an imperial German national memorial located near Rüdesheim am Rhein, completed in 1883. The monument commemorates the unification of Germany following the Franco-Prussian War of 1870-71 and features a central figure of Germania holding the recovered imperial crown. At 38 meters tall, it sits atop a hill overlooking the Rhine Valley and was designed by architect Karl Weisbach, with sculptor Johannes Schilling creating the central Germania figure.
