"Murder, Inc." (1960) is an American crime film that dramatizes the real-life Brooklyn-based murder-for-hire organization that operated during the 1930s as part of the National Crime Syndicate. The film stars Stuart Whitman as a nightclub owner and Peter Falk as criminal Abe Reles, whose testimony helped dismantle the assassination squad. Falk received an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor for his performance, launching his film career. Directed by Burt Balaban and Stuart Rosenberg, the film represents one of Hollywood's early attempts to realistically portray organized crime in a period setting.
