description Tay River Overview

The River Tay is Scotland's longest river, running approximately 193 kilometers from its source on the slopes of Ben Lui to the North Sea. It drains the country's largest catchment area and has the highest average discharge of any river in the United Kingdom. The river flows eastward through Perth before reaching the Firth of Tay near the city of Dundee, where it is spanned by the Victorian-era Tay Rail Bridge. The Tay is an important ecological corridor, particularly known for its Atlantic salmon populations.
