Bernard L. Feringa

Bernard Feringa was awarded the 2016 Nobel Prize in Chemistry for his work on the design and synthesis of molecular machines. He was specifically recognized for being the first person to develop a molecular motor that spins continuously in a single direction.

Feringa shared the Nobel Prize with French chemist Jean-Pierre Sauvage and British-American chemist Sir J. Fraser Stoddart. The trio was collectively honored for laying the foundational work in the field of molecular machinery.
