Red Dead Redemption

The game follows the story of John Marston, a former outlaw who is forced by the government to hunt down his old gang members. The Bureau of Investigation, led by Edgar Ross, kidnaps Marston's wife and son to ensure his compliance. Marston's journey takes him across the American frontier and into Mexico to track down his former associates, Bill Williamson and Dutch van der Linde.

The primary storyline is set in 1911, with the epilogue taking place in 1914. This setting is during the decline of the American Old West, as the federal government pushes to modernize the frontier. The timing heavily informs the game's themes of modernization encroaching on the freedom of the Wild West.

The game was developed by Rockstar San Diego and published by Rockstar Games in 2010. Rockstar utilized their proprietary Rockstar Advanced Game Engine (RAGE) to build the sprawling open-world environments of New Austin and West Elizabeth. It was released exclusively on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 consoles.

The game is set in a fictionalized version of the American West and Mexico. Players traverse distinct regions, including the arid deserts of New Austin, the plains of West Elizabeth, and the politically turbulent Mexican province of Nuevo Paraíso. The diverse landscapes are populated by wildlife, townsfolk, bandits, and dynamic random encounters.
