Resin Cast WWII Aircraft Kit

Resin kits are cast from liquid polyurethane resin poured into silicone molds, allowing for finer surface detail and more accurate shapes than injection-molded polystyrene plastic. However, resin parts are more brittle, often contain air bubbles and flash, and require super glue (CA glue) rather than standard plastic cement.

Resin kits are generally not recommended for beginners due to the need for super glue, extensive sanding, removal of casting blocks, and often minimal instructions. Modelers are typically advised to gain experience with injection-molded kits from manufacturers like Tamiya or Hasegawa before attempting a full resin build.

The most common scales for resin WWII aircraft kits are 1/72 and 1/48, which match mainstream injection-molded kits for consistency in parts-swapping and diorama building. Some specialty resin manufacturers also produce 1/32 scale kits, though these tend to be expensive and aimed at serious display modelers.

Notable resin aircraft model manufacturers include Pavla Models, Special Hobby, and aftermarket detail producers like Aires and Quickboost that make resin enhancements for mainstream plastic kits. Many of these companies are based in the Czech Republic, Poland, or the United Kingdom.
